Quarantine Activities

COVID-19 has proved to be one of the harder challenges I have had to face in my life and I know many others feel the same. However, it has made me so happy when I turn to Instagram or Tiktok and see all of these families and people using this time to better themselves, start new projects, and just overall doing things that are generating happiness instead of focusing on all the negativity in the world. This inspired me to reflect on my time in quarantine and think about all the ways that I am trying to rid myself of anxiety and enjoy time with my family that I would not normally get to have.

Quarantine has actually brought out parts of me that I didn’t even know existed. I have even started to enjoy cleaning. Yes…CLEANING. If you know me, you know that I am normally not the most tidy person but this time at home has brought out the clean freak that has been living deep inside of me. As a person with anxiety, I knew this time would be an extra stressful time for me because I had to leave school and my study abroad program was cancelled. Not to mention not being able to see all of my friends. However, I know everyone in the world is suffering from extreme loss and I am ever so grateful to all of the healthcare workers and all of those who are out there fighting everyday in order to make this country safe again.

So, I thought I would compile a list of all of the activities that I have been doing throughout the weeks that have brought me happiness and peace.

Baking!

Baking has consistently been one of my favorite activities throughout the weeks because I have always loved cooking and baking and there’s always a fun, yummy treat to come out of it! I’ve also challenged myself to make healthier desserts because it always makes me feel better when I feel in control of what I’m eating! My favorite bake so far as been these gluten free/dairy free powdered donuts from NoBread. They are absolutely delicious and were a crowd pleaser for my entire family!

A few might have gotten messed up in the tray but omg…these were amazing! This is a guaranteed stress reliever for me and always brings me happiness. I’ve also learned to love the clean up afterwards…who am I???

Working Out

Exercise has always been a key component of my everyday life, however it has become even more important during this difficult time. I find exercise fun but I also find it to be an amazing way to get out all the anger and frustration I am feeling that day. It has been a great motivation for me to get up and something to look forward to. I have tried to do a variety of different work outs so that I don’t get burnt out on one specific thing. I typically do a virtual Burn Boot Camp workout (they’re still doing their 2 week free trial right now so go sign up!!!!) but I have also alternated in pilates workouts like Blogilates and I also have done a couple of Chloe Ting’s workotus! Also, as you may have seen from my Instagram page, I’m also working on my handstands.

The former gymnast in me is quaking but I am so excited to start being able to do these again. I like to set goals and this has been one of mine during quarantine and has obviously paid off!

Journaling

Journaling actually is something that I had never tried before quarantine. I had heard a lot about it and a few of my friends actually suggested that I try it so I decided that now would be the perfect time! Whether it’s just word-vomiting on the page about everything I’m feeling or practicing my calligraphy or even just doodling, I try to use that time to express myself and my emotions so that they don’t get too bottle up. Normally I like to talk about my feelings but of course there are always some things that I would rather figure out in my head first before I discuss them with someone else and I have found this to be a great outlet for that!

New TV Shows & Books

And finally…Netflix has become my best friend. I didn’t really have that much free time when I was taking classes at school but now that everything has turned to online courses I have found a little extra spare time on my hands and have decided to fill it with Netflix. Here’s a list of shows and movies that you HAVE to watch:

  • The Good Place
  • The Vampire Diaries (Seriously watch this. I protested watching it for so long and ended up falling in love with it and BAWLING my eyes out at the finale. Please.)
  • New Girl
  • Parks and Recreation
  • Step Brothers (a classic)
  • Cheer
  • He’s Just Not That Into You

I have also had some extra time for reading as well! I highly, highly suggest the Crazy Rich Asians series as well as the Confessions of a Shopaholic series! Very good, light reading that is sure to bring some light in all of this darkness.


These are just a couple of the ways that I have been filling my time during this quarantine. This time is not easy for anyone and my heart goes out to any one who is struggling with their mental, physical or emotional health at this time.
